Checkering is the process of carving hash marks and other shapes into wood. You often see checkering done on wooden gun stocks for improved gripping of the gun. Checkering is also done for decorative details on woodturning vases and bowls as well as fine furniture such as drawers and table aprons. We offer two checking kits.

Starter set contains a complete S-1 tool, two regular handles as well as a fine layout cutter, coarse layout cutter, double cutter, spacing cutter, and a wide bordering cutter.

The master set contains a fine layout cutter, coarse layout cutter, double cutter, left spacing cutter, right spacing cutter, and S-1 short cutter with a handle for each.

The Gunstock Checkering Instruction book is a great place to start if your interested in learning the fundamentals of checkering.
